Following the disappearance and apparent suicide of her brother, Mae struggles to believe he is dead. As her emotions and behaviour spiral out of control, support from family and friends are in short supply. After a drunken fight, she is given a Community Payback Order at a local recycling project.

An initial clash with another offender, ex-teacher Mrs Outhwaite, leaves Mae questioning everything she has ever believed … but can she finally give up the idea that Dan might still be alive?
